Foldable iPhone: Apple’s foldable iPhone is no longer just a rumour, but is close to becoming a reality. Cupertino-based tech company Apple has not officially confirmed anything, but according to new reports, the development of the foldable iPhone has now reached a serious phase. It is being said that Apple has started the prototype phase of this foldable phone and this device can complete the testing phase by the end of 2025. If everything goes according to plan, Apple can launch its first foldable iPhone in the second half of 2026.

Prototype Phase

A report by Digitimes has said that Apple’s foldable iPhone had reached the P1 prototype stage by June 2025. This development process happens step by step in typical Apple style – there are prototype stages from P1 to P3, after which the device enters the Device Engineering Verification Test (EVT). Each prototype phase generally lasts two months, during which Apple’s supply chain partners conduct limited trial production, so that any problems in design and manufacturing can be assessed.

Testing Process

During this testing period, Apple’s production partners – Foxconn and Pegatron – make trial units and check their production yield. This is very important to verify how much efficiency will be achieved in large-scale production. When it is confirmed that the manufacturing process is stable, then full-scale production is given the green signal. According to the first shipment estimate, Apple may initially bring around 7 million foldable iPhones to the market. But this figure will depend on the market reaction – if the demand is high then production can be increased further.

iPad Fold Cancel

Interesting thing is that Apple was also developing a foldable iPad in parallel. But according to reports, that project has been temporarily paused. Industry experts believe that there are several reasons behind this decision – such as technical problems in the production of flexible display, overall cost being too high, and the market demand for foldable tablets being weak so far. That is why Apple has decided to focus on foldable iPhone first.

Market Competition

With the launch of Apple’s foldable iPhone, a new battle is going to start in the foldable market. Samsung, which is already the king of the market with the Galaxy Z Fold series, will now face competition from Apple. Along with this, Google’s Pixel Fold and foldables from many Chinese brands like Huawei, Oppo, Vivo are also in competition. But due to Apple’s branding and loyal fanbase, this phone may give a new direction to the foldable segment.

Design Details

Talking about the design of the foldable iPhone, many futuristic details have come to light. According to reports, the phone will have a liquid metal hinge which will make its folding mechanism smooth and durable. There will be a 7.8-inch large foldable display inside the phone and a 5.5-inch cover display outside. When the phone is folded, it will be around 9.2mm thick, and just 4.6mm when unfolded – which is quite thin. It is also being said that Apple is planning to provide a side-mounted Touch ID sensor in it – which will be useful for both security and accessibility.

Price Prediction

Now talking about the price, this phone will not be cheap. Its price in the US market can be approximately $2,300, which is around ₹1,99,000 in Indian rupees. This price matches Apple’s typical premium approach, and justifies the expensive nature of foldable technology. So this phone will be for people who really want to be a part of Apple’s innovation, no matter the cost.
