During this testing period, Apple’s production partners – Foxconn and Pegatron – make trial units and check their production yield. This is very important to verify how much efficiency will be achieved in large-scale production. When it is confirmed that the manufacturing process is stable, then full-scale production is given the green signal. According to the first shipment estimate, Apple may initially bring around 7 million foldable iPhones to the market. But this figure will depend on the market reaction – if the demand is high then production can be increased further.

Industry experts believe that there are several reasons behind this decision – such as technical problems in the production of flexible display, overall cost being too high, and the market demand for foldable tablets being weak so far.
