New Delhi: No more earthquakes will kill people, thanks to Google’s upcoming feature. Google is working on a new feature that will alert people in the event of an earthquake. Users will be able to easily download it to their phones.
According to Google, since its launch in 2020, it has successfully detected more than 2,000 earthquakes. Furthermore, in 2023, this feature detected a 6.7 magnitude earthquake in the Philippines. This feature has sent an alert covering approximately 2.5 million people.
Google is rapidly working on this feature. Once this feature is available, users will be able to share this alert with their acquaintances and on social media. This feature will provide timely and accurate information about natural disasters.
The new feature will be packed with features.
Media reports suggest that a share alert option is being included in Android’s Earthquake Alert. It can then be shared on social media and other apps with a single tap. It will create a buzz with a pre-filled message and the hashtag #AndroidEarthquakeAlerts.
This will also allow users to inform their acquaintances and others about an earthquake promptly. This will give them more time to take cover or reach a safe place. It will work conveniently for users and allow them to use it without any hassle. This is considered a major step by Google.
Learn how it works?
Google uses the accelerometers built into phones in a different way, turning them into mini seismometers. This can be used to detect earthquake tremors. Additionally, when a phone senses the initial tremors, it sends location vibration data to Google’s servers.
If a large number of such signals are received from any location, the system confirms the earthquake and sends alert notifications to Android smartphones in that area. Additionally, alerts are sent if the earthquake’s magnitude is around 4.5. People will also be alerted if the earthquake is of a magnitude greater than this.
