EPFO 3.0: Exciting news awaits the numerous salaried individuals associated with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization. The government is set to introduce EPFO 3.0, an advancement in its digital infrastructure. This upgrade will put an end to the lengthy process of settling PF claims, allowing members to directly withdraw funds from their UPI account or a UPI-enabled ATM without the need for any paperwork.
Recently, the central government sanctioned an 8.25% interest rate on EPF and VPF for the fiscal year 2026. The introduction of EPFO 3.0 will offer members swift and convenient access to their funds. Let’s delve into how this new system will simplify the lives of PF subscribers.
What is EPFO 3.0 and what prompted this change?
The primary objective of EPFO 3.0 is to reduce the processing time for PF claims and transition services to a fully digital platform. As per the Ministry of Labor and Employment, EPFO has successfully migrated its complete member database to the Centralized IT-Enabled System (CITES) platform in July. This transition has eliminated the previous system and established a nationwide database. Subscribers can now instantly transfer funds to their linked bank accounts via UPI.
EPFO 3.0 will offer these 5 key advantages to subscribers
PF withdrawal of up to 75% through UPI and ATM
Depending on specific terms and conditions, members can withdraw 50% to 75% of their EPF balance through UPI or a UPI-enabled ATM. Subscribers can check their eligible balance transferable to their bank account and securely transfer funds by using their UPI PIN. This amount can then be spent digitally or withdrawn as cash from an ATM.
Auto-settlement limit raised to ₹5 lakh
The auto-settlement limit has been raised from ₹1 lakh to ₹5 lakh by EPFO. This enhancement will enable claims related to necessities like medical emergencies, children’s education, marriage, or home purchase/construction to be automatically processed and credited to accounts within a mere three days.
Face Authentication in UMANG App
Members can now generate or activate their UAN using Face Authentication Technology (FAT) on the Umang app. They can also instantly access passbooks, rectify incorrect details, and submit claims online, all from the convenience of their homes.
Freedom from claim rejection
In the previous system, members were often unaware of their eligible withdrawal amount, resulting in claim rejections. With EPFO 3.0, subscribers will now see the eligible amount displayed upfront on the screen, based on their circumstances.
Digital response to online complaints
If additional information is required by the PF office during claim processing, members can now digitally submit their responses online. Previously, there was no provision for providing clarifications online.
