EPF: For employed individuals, the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) serves as a means to save for the future. A percentage of their earnings is set aside each month, gradually accumulating into a sizeable fund. The government provides interest on this total, which surpasses standard savings account rates, facilitating rapid growth of the money placed in the EPF. The longer the funds remain in the EPF account, the quicker they multiply, thanks to the accrual of not just interest but also compound interest.
Having Rs 10 lakh in your EPF account could potentially lead you to become a millionaire. Opting not to withdraw these funds and allowing them to mature over an extended period can prove advantageous, as the interest compounds, hastening the growth of the sum.
The duration required to transform Rs 10 lakh into Rs 1 crore is as follows
– At the current annual interest rate of 8.25% for EPF accounts, Rs 10 lakh would escalate to Rs 22 lakh in 10 years, Rs 48 lakh in 20 years, Rs 74 lakh in 25 years, and Rs 1.10 crore in 30 years. This indicates that the interest alone could accumulate to Rs 1 crore in 30 years.
This computation involves adding the interest earned on the initial Rs 10 lakh to the principal amount, and then earning interest on this total in the subsequent year. This process of interest accruing on the principal and being paid out yearly continues. By refraining from withdrawing the funds, the sum continues to expand. Furthermore, if regular contributions are made, the growth accelerates even more.
Financial experts strongly recommend against withdrawing funds from the EPF, as it is regarded as a secure investment that guarantees reliable interest rates. Withdrawing prematurely for minor expenses can result in substantial losses, disrupting the potential for building a substantial fund for the future.
Meanwhile Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) members can create, activate, and verify their Universal Account Number (UAN) using the Umang app, allowing them to access various PF-related services digitally.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment informed about this facility through a post on X on September 4. The ministry said that EPFO members can obtain and verify their UAN with the help of the Umang app. Once the UAN is created and activated, members can avail various facilities like checking their EPF balance, downloading passbook and checking claim status. The entire process involves identity verification through Aadhaar, including facial recognition verification. This reduces the need for paperwork and manual verification.
