EPF Advance Withdrawal Rules: Big news for EPF account holders. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is continuously updating its regulations to simplify procedures for its members. Recently, modifications have been made to the rules regarding advances from EPF. This includes streamlining the process for withdrawing funds from PF accounts, making it more convenient for members to access their funds when needed. The EPFO has revised the rules to specify the conditions, methods, and frequency of withdrawals.
The EPFO has shared detailed guidelines on withdrawing PF advances on its official social media platforms. These guidelines outline the number of withdrawals allowed from PF accounts and the purposes for which withdrawals are permitted.
Eligibility to withdraw an advance from PF is subject to certain conditions. According to EPFO, all categories have equal eligibility. After completing 12 months of EPF membership, members can withdraw a maximum of 75 percent of the total EPF deposit, which includes both employee and employer contributions along with accrued interest. This means that upon completing a year of EPF membership, members are eligible to withdraw an advance. The advance amount that can be withdrawn is 75 percent of the total deposited amount, comprising both the member’s and the employer’s contributions.
The latest rules introduced by EPFO allow for withdrawals from EPF in three categories based on specific needs. The categories include essential needs, housing needs, and special circumstances. Each category has different purposes for which funds can be withdrawn.
The number of times an advance can be withdrawn in each category is as follows:
– For illness, education, and marriage – No specific limit
– For housing-related purposes – Up to 5 times during the subscription period
– For special circumstances – Up to 2 times in a financial year
To apply for a PF advance, members can visit the EPFO’s official portal. However, completion of the account’s bank and PAN/Aadhaar KYC procedures is required before applying. Once the application for a PF advance is submitted, the funds will be transferred to the member’s bank account within 2 to 3 days.
