Crackdown on Adult Content: If you are also fond of watching web series on OTT platforms, then this news is essential for you. Recently, the Government of India has taken a big step and banned 25 such apps and websites that were serving soft porn and adult content. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has made this decision to curb the pornographic content available online.
Which apps and websites were banned?
This list includes many such names that may be in your phone or that you have heard about. These include well-known names like ALT, Ullu, Big Shots App, DesiFlix, Boomex, Navrasa Lite, and Gandulab. Apart from this, notable apps include Kangan App, Bull App, Jalwa App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, HitPrime, Feneo, ShowX, Soul Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Halchal App, MoodX, NeonX VIP, Fugi, Mojflix, and Triflix.
The ministry has issued instructions to all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to shut down these websites and apps immediately.
Why was this decision taken?
According to government sources, adult content was being served fearlessly in the name of ‘erotic web series’ on these OTT apps, on which there was no moderation or restriction. Following continuous complaints from the public, the Ministry of Information and Technology decided to take strict action on this matter.
The government clearly says that under the IT Act 2000 and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, it is the responsibility of Internet Service Providers to remove or block access to any such illegal information.
What does this mean for you?
You will no longer be able to access any content on these 25 apps and websites. This step by the government is an important initiative aimed at maintaining online security and upholding the values of Indian society. It is also a warning to those platforms that are serving pornographic content without any restriction.
