UP Teacher Recruitment 2026: Important information has emerged for young people who have been waiting for a long-awaited teacher recruitment in Uttar Pradesh, one of the country’s largest states. Lakhs of candidates in the state dream of becoming teachers after completing their B.Ed. and D.El.Ed. degrees, but a recent government response has further prolonged this wait. The government has clarified that there are no plans to create new teacher recruitment positions at this time.
What was said about recruitment?
Sandeep Singh, representing the state’s Basic Education Department, has submitted a written response in the Assembly. He stated that no new recruitment for TET-passed candidates is currently being considered after 2022. He stated that the department already has a sufficient number of teachers, Shiksha Mitra (teachers), and instructors, maintaining a balanced teacher-student ratio.
How many vacant positions are there in the state?
According to information, approximately 46,944 assistant teacher positions are reported vacant in Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Council schools. Despite this, the government believes that the current staffing arrangement is not impacting educational work.
MLA raises recruitment issue
Anil Pradhan raised this issue in the Assembly. He stated that approximately 20 to 25 lakh youth in the state are awaiting recruitment after completing D.El.Ed. or other teacher training courses. Due to the lack of recruitment, many candidates are being forced to apply in other states.
The Education Minister stated that facilities such as cashless medical care and transfer to preferred locations have been implemented for Shiksha Mitra teachers. The government has filed a review petition in the Supreme Court of India regarding the court’s decision regarding the mandatory TET for former teachers, seeking relief for them.
When was the last teacher recruitment held?
The last major recruitment in the state took place in 2019, in which 69,000 assistant teachers were recruited. Later, under a court order, 5,886 candidates were appointed in 2022. Since then, the new recruitment process has not yet begun.
