UGC Ishan Uday Scholarship 2025 : With the aim of providing assistance to the students of Northeast India for higher education, UGC (University Grants Commission) has launched the Ishan Uday Scholarship Scheme. The registration of this scholarship is currently going on on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Eligible students can apply for this scheme till 31 October 2025.
What is Ishan Uday Scholarship Scheme
This scheme has been started especially for the students of economically weaker sections of Northeast India. Under this, ten thousand students get benefit every year. The selected students are given an amount of ₹ 8000 every month, which they get for a total of ten months. This amount helps in the study expenses of the students, so that they can continue their studies without any financial pressure.
Students from which fields get the benefit
Under this scheme, the scholarship is divided into two parts. Half of the scholarships are for those students who are studying subjects like Arts, Humanities, Social Science, Law and Management. The remaining half of the scholarship is reserved for students from fields like science, engineering, medical, technical, agriculture and forestry. This ensures that students from every region get equal opportunities.
Eligibility conditions
There are some important conditions to avail this scholarship. First of all, the student must have studied class XII from a recognized school located in the Northeast region. This school can also be affiliated to CBSE, CISCE or NIOS board.
Apart from this, the student must have taken admission in the first year of undergraduate (UG) studies in any recognized Indian university or college. Students who have already obtained a degree will not be considered eligible for this scholarship. If the student is studying in a dual degree or integrated course, then the scholarship will be given only till the UG section.
It is also important to note that this scheme is only for students pursuing regular, full-time courses. Students pursuing open, distance, private or part-time courses cannot avail this scheme. Also, if the student has taken admission through management quota, then he will also be ineligible for this scheme.
Economic status and residence certificate
The aim of this scheme is to help only those students who are financially weak. Therefore, the annual income of the parents of the applying student should be less than ₹ 4.50 lakh. Apart from this, the student must also have a valid residence certificate of the Northeast state.
Scholarship duration and renewal process
This scholarship is provided for the entire UG degree. If the student successfully enters the next class every year and his attendance and conduct are satisfactory, then the scholarship is renewed. The list of selected students is released around December or November every year.
