School Closed:- Heavy rains have caused havoc in the hilly areas. The water from the mountains is coming down and increasing the water level of the rivers. Heavy rains are wreaking havoc in Haryana from Rajasthan to Punjab. Life has been affected due to continuous rain. More than a thousand villages in 9 districts of Punjab are on the verge of floods. Due to heavy rains, crops have suffered heavy damage.
Amidst this disaster, the Punjab government has decided to keep all schools in the state closed, prioritising the safety of students. This order will apply to all government, aided, recognised and private institutions. Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains clarified that this step has been taken on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, so that no student or teacher has to face trouble due to heavy rains.
The administration has already intensified relief and rescue operations to address the flooding. The government wants that in this difficult time, parents should give priority to the safety of children and follow the instructions of the administration properly.
Schools closed in Punjab
In view of the flood situation, schools in Punjab were already closed from 27 August to 30 August. But now the holidays have been extended till 3 September. Harjot Bains has informed in a post on X (former Twitter) on Sunday night that some private schools are calling teachers despite the holidays. He said, “The government has declared holidays keeping in mind the safety of students and teachers. Despite this, if any private school arbitrarily calls teachers, the district administration will take action.” He said that clear instructions have been issued to the officials in this regard.
Due to continuous heavy rainfall across Punjab since last night, all colleges, universities, and polytechnic institutes will also remain closed till 3rd September 2025 with immediate effect.

Heavy rain warning in Punjab
According to the Meteorological Department, in the next 3 hours (from 7 am), heavy rain can be seen again in Chandigarh, Fatehgarh Sahib, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Malerkotla, Patiala, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar of Punjab.
Weather condition in Delhi-NCR
The Meteorological Department has also issued a yellow alert for the Delhi region. According to the IMD, a warning has been issued for thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rain in Delhi in the morning. Apart from this, there is a chance of heavy rain with thunderstorms in Noida as well. The sky will remain cloudy and there may be rain or thundershowers at some places.
