RBSE Changes Promotion Rules for Classes 5 and 8 : The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education has made an important change in the promotion rules for school students in the state. Students who are currently enrolled in Class 5 and Class 8 will now require grade promotion through successful completion of their studies instead of receiving automatic promotion to the next grade. The board has officially ended the automatic promotion system which allows students to fail their courses after they fail to achieve the necessary academic performance standards.
The automatic promotion system functioned as a method which allowed students to advance into the next grade without having to pass their courses. Rajasthan used to promote students from Class 5 and Class 8 to the next grade based on their passing results which included their assessment scores. The system advanced students to the next grade because students received passage despite their failure to pass their tests. The educational system developed this structure to reduce the stress which children face during their learning process.
The system was built to reduce young students’ educational pressure but it has developed into a system which promotes students who lack basic knowledge.
What has changed now
RBSE has abolished automatic promotion through its latest decision. The upcoming academic year will determine which students progress to the next grade based on their academic results.
• Students must appear in exams seriously
• Minimum required marks will matter
• Students who perform poorly will face the risk of failing
• Students who do not meet qualification standards will need to repeat their current class
The change applies specifically to Class 5 and Class 8 students across Rajasthan
The board decided to stop automatic promotion because students progressed through school while lacking fundamental knowledge of subjects in Maths, Hindi, English, and Science. Students who started secondary school faced problems because they needed to learn two different subjects.
RBSE has removed automatic promotion to
• Improve learning quality at the foundation level
• Ensure students understand core subjects
• Reduce academic burden in higher classes
• Promote formation of study habits through regular study sessions
What parents and students should understand
The new rule requires students to maintain full concentration during their entire academic year.
Parents and students need to understand that
• Attendance alone is no longer enough
• Regular tests and exams will matter
• Teachers’ assessments will play a role
• Students who struggle with subjects will need additional assistance
Schools are expected to guide students and parents clearly about evaluation methods.
How schools will follow the new rule
RBSE schools are required to perform proper assessments of students who are in Class 5 and Class 8. Teachers will track progress and help students improve during the session. Schools who want to help students who need further assistance can create remedial programs.
The school will keep parents updated about their child’s performance so they can provide home assistance.
Why this decision is important
Ending automatic promotion creates a fundamental shift in the educational system which exists within Rajasthan schools. The board believes that this step will help students build stronger academic foundations and be better prepared for future classes.
The educational system for students requires them to study seriously from their first day while parents should actively support their children to achieve their educational goals.
