Let us tell you that the National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced several important changes for JEE Main 2026. In a notification released on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in, the agency stated that the virtual calculator feature has now been removed during the exam. Several improvements have also been made to the application process, the most important of which is the ‘Live Photo Capture’ feature.

It should be noted that 33 new exam centres have been added across the country, while 7 old centres have been removed. The January session of JEE Main 2026 (Session 1) will be held between January 21 and 30, 2026. The application process began on October 31 and will continue until November 27, 2025.

Who can apply?

According to the guidelines issued by the NTA, students who passed Class 12 or equivalent exams in 2024 or 2025 can appear for JEE Main 2026. However, those who passed Class 12 in 2023 or before will not be eligible.

These are the new changes in the application form.

This year, the NTA has made several technical changes to make the application process more transparent.

  • Candidates will now be required to take and upload a live photo, which will be taken in real time at the time of application.
  • Candidates’ personal details will now be verified directly from their Aadhaar card.
  • Photo size should be between 10KB and 200KB, while signature size has been limited to 10KB and 100KB.
  • Identity proof must be uploaded in JPG/JPEG format.
  • Differently abled candidates are required to upload their UDID certificate in PDF (50KB to 300KB) format.

Key Exam Dates

The NTA has released the full schedule for the January session.

  • Applications Begin: October 31, 2025
  • Application Deadline: November 27, 2025
  • Admit Card Release: 3-4 days before the exam
  • Exam Dates: January 21 to 30, 2026
  • Result Declaration: February 12, 2026
  • Session 2 will be held between April 2 and 9, 2026. Applications will open at the end of January 2026.

New Exam Structure and Features

A new Computer-Based Test (CBT) section has been added to the JEE Main exam this year. The exam will be conducted entirely online. However, the NTA has clarified that candidates will no longer be able to use any type of calculator, physical or virtual.
