GATE 2026 registration. Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) is going to start registration for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 from August 28, 2025. Let us tell you that earlier this date was August 25, 2025, due to which interested candidates will now be able to apply online through the official website gate2026.iitg.ac.in from the changed date.
With this GATE exam conducted every year, graduates and engineering students can get admission in IITs and other institutes and PSU recruitment opportunities through this exam. This exam is jointly conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and IIT under the Ministry of Education.

When will the GATE exam 2026 be held?
This time the GATE exam is being conducted by IIT Guwahati, due to which the exam will be conducted on 7, 8, 14 and 15 February 2026. Let us tell you that the GATE exam can take admission in courses like master’s and doctorate’s in engineering, technology, science, architecture, commerce, arts and humanities as well as PSU recruitments.
Let us tell you that there will be a total of 30 test papers in GATE 2026, in which a new sectional paper, Energy Science (XE-I), has been added in Engineering Science (XE). The exam will be in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode, GATE score will be valid for 3 years.
GATE 2026: Increase in GATE application fee
It is important for the candidates to note that the application fee for GATE 2026 has been increased, so that the fee per paper for General/OBC/EWS candidates is Rs 2000, while for female/SC/ST/Divyang candidates it is Rs 1000. The late fee will be Rs 2500 and Rs 1500. If the candidates apply for two papers in the GATE exam here, then they will have to pay double the fee.
GATE 2026: How to register
Candidates will be able to register from 28 August 2025, so that you can prepare the necessary documents in advance, so that you can apply on time and also pay the fees online
- For application, interested candidates should visit the official portal gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
- For the first time, register with your name and email ID mobile number.
- After the registration process, fill in the complete details like educational qualification and exam centre.
- Pay the fees and enter the details of the selected centre/subject.
- After submitting the form, download its copy.
