Delhi Traffic Rules 2026: Winter has arrived in the national capital, Delhi, and with it, the problem of pollution is intensifying. Keeping this in mind, the Delhi government is set to implement new regulations starting November 1, 2026, to control pollution. If you reside in Delhi or are visiting the city with a vehicle from another state, it is crucial that you are aware of these specific rules. Under these new government regulations, certain vehicles will face restrictions, and parking charges will also be increased.
Vehicles Exempt from Restrictions
To curb pollution in Delhi, restrictions have been imposed on vehicles that do not meet BS-6 emission standards. These restrictions will remain in effect until January 31, 2027. However, certain categories of vehicles are exempt, including those that are BS-6 compliant, CNG-powered, or electric vehicles (EVs). Therefore, if you are planning to drive in the city, ensure you verify your vehicle’s emission standard.
Mandatory PUC Certificate for Drivers
To further combat pollution in the capital, the government has made a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate mandatory. This means that vehicles without a valid PUC certificate will be denied fuel (petrol or diesel). Vehicle owners are advised to obtain their PUC certificates well in advance.
New Regulations for Trucks
To control pollution, the movement of trucks within Delhi will be restricted. Trucks that are not permitted to enter the national capital will be barred from doing so; instead, they will be required to use the Peripheral Motorway. This measure is intended to reduce the number of heavy vehicles on Delhi’s roads.
Parking Charges to Double
Additionally, parking charges in Delhi are set to change, effective tomorrow, November 1. Under the new rules, parking fees for personal vehicles will be doubled. Additionally, electric vehicles will be granted exemptions on parking charges. The primary objective is to encourage the adoption of alternatives to petrol and diesel-powered vehicles.
150 New Electric Buses to be Introduced
To reduce pollution and provide an excellent transport facility for the public, the Delhi government has announced the deployment of 150 electric buses. These buses will offer greater convenience to passengers while simultaneously helping to lower pollution levels.
