Delhi Metro Closed Update: Amidst CJP’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ (March to Parliament) protest in Delhi, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced the closure of 16 metro stations. The closure of station gates is causing significant inconvenience to the general public. According to the DMRC, these stations will remain closed to passengers from 7:30 AM until further notice. Since most people in Delhi rely on the metro for their daily commute to work, these closures are causing difficulties for commuters; additionally, the protest appears to be impacting the pockets of the common man.

However, interchange facilities remain available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat stations. This means passengers can switch trains at these stations but are not permitted to exit or enter the station premises.

16 Delhi Metro Stations Closed

According to the DMRC, the 16 stations kept closed include Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhamba Road, Supreme Court, Seva Tirath, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, and Shivaji Stadium. Commuters must await further orders from the DMRC regarding the reopening of these stations.

Metro Closures May Cause Inconvenience to Commuters

This major decision by the Delhi Metro is likely to inconvenience passengers, particularly those commuting to work during the morning and evening hours. Commuters may also face difficulties during peak rush hours. An order had previously been issued to keep these 16 stations closed until 6:30 PM on Wednesday as well, forcing passengers to alter their routes. The Delhi Metro had closed these stations due to the protest organised by the CJP.

Information Provided Early Thursday

The Delhi Metro had resumed operations at these stations at 6:30 PM on Wednesday. Consequently, one must await the latest updates regarding the Delhi Metro for today as well. Commuters faced inconvenience on Wednesday due to announcements made in the metro system. However, early Thursday morning, the Delhi Metro issued a fresh update via social media, ordering the closure of 16 stations.

In a post on the social media platform X, the Delhi Metro stated: “Below-mentioned Metro stations will be closed from 07:30 AM till further instructions. However, Interchange facility shall remain available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat.”

It is worth noting that the Monsoon Session of Parliament began on July 20, the same day the CJP (Kakroj Janata Party) organised a march. Precautionary orders to close stations were issued due to security concerns, and these closures remain in effect today. The Delhi Metro’s Blue Line is among the busiest routes, with Rajiv Chowk—located on this line—considered the city’s busiest station. Rajiv Chowk serves as a major interchange point for multiple lines, causing significant inconvenience to passengers there.

Delhi Metro’s Advice to Commuters

Metro authorities have urged passengers to verify their route details before travelling. In light of the CJP protest and security arrangements around Parliament, the police have set up barricades in several areas of the capital.

Traffic Jams Expected in Delhi Today

Traffic flow in Delhi may be disrupted today due to the CJP protests. The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory urging people to travel only if necessary. Commuters heading towards the airport, railway stations, and surrounding areas are advised to leave home well in advance.
