10 rupee old note sale : Two notes of Rs 10 each and both are worth at least Rs 4 lakh! How did this happen? Actually, these two currency notes of 1918 were found from the wreck of SS Shirala in London. Now both these notes will be auctioned in Nunan’s Mayfair on Wednesday next week. These two notes will also be offered in auction under the sale of World Banknotes. The specialty of both the notes is that they are not signed and their quality is excellent. His paper is also said to be rare.

The auction of these two notes of Rs 10 each is to be held on 29 May 2024. Although these are unsigned notes, they are printed on super quality original paper. Their serial numbers can also still be clearly seen. These notes were being sent from London to Bombay in the German U-boat SS Shirala.

At that time, these notes printed in England were being sent to India via water. But due to an accident on the way, SS Shirala sank in water. Most of the Indian currency notes loaded on the ship were destroyed, but two notes were still safe.

According to the information published in the report, the auction lots of these two notes have been fixed at 474 and 475. Both lots will be auctioned on May 29. It is estimated that the auction could be for 2,000-2,600 British pounds (2.1 to 2.7 lakh rupees). Thomasina Smith, head of numismatics at auction house Noonanz, gave detailed information about this.

Rs 100 note will be sold for Rs 5 lakh

Some more rare notes of the Government of India are also going to be auctioned in this auction. A Rs 100 note printed during the British Empire will also be put up for auction. It is being said that it can be auctioned between 4,400 to 5,000 British pounds (Rs 4,65,103 – 5,28,510). These are signed and bear the seal of Calcutta. These are from the period between 1917 – 1930. Rs 100 is written on the back side of this note in various Indian languages including Hindi and Bengali.

The cargo ferry was SS Shirala.

SS Shirala was a sailing ship, which was considered a modern passenger and cargo ferry of that time. It was used to transport passengers and goods on scheduled routes from England to India. It started its last journey on 29 June 1918. SS Shirala ferry had left from London for Bombay. Along with passengers, some goods were also loaded in it. The goods included munitions, ivory, wine, marmalade, lorry parts, spares for Model T cars, diamonds and sheets of paper printed as rupees from the Bank of England
