Cattle insurance scheme: There is good news for the cattle farmers of Bihar. Now, they no longer have to worry about insuring their dairy cattle. The Animal and Fisheries Resources Department’s Directorate of Cows has launched a special insurance scheme for dairy cattle. The main goal of this scheme is to protect cattle farmers from financial losses caused by the death of cattle due to serious diseases and other reasons.
Key Features of the Insurance Scheme
- Under this scheme, cattle farmers need to pay only 25% of the insurance amount, while the remaining 75% will be covered by the state government.
- This will reduce the financial burden on cattle farmers and help protect their livelihood.
- The maximum value of dairy cattle has been set at ₹60,000.
- The total insurance amount at a 3.5% rate will be ₹2,100.
- Out of this, ₹1,575 will be provided by the state government as a subsidy, while cattle farmers will need to pay only ₹525 to the insurance company.
Purpose of the Scheme
The main goal of this scheme is to protect cattle farmers from financial losses caused by the death of dairy cattle due to serious diseases like lumpy skin disease, HSBQ, and other conditions.
- It provides financial security for both the treatment and compensation in case of cattle death.
- Members of milk-producing cooperative societies will be given priority under this scheme.
- Only healthy cattle will be eligible for insurance, and a health certificate will be issued by a veterinarian before approval.

Ear Tag Security and Beneficiary Responsibility
- The scheme will be implemented through the District Cow Development Officer.
- The insurance company will provide coverage for one year.
- Each insured cattle will receive a data ear tag for identification.
- The cattle farmer will be responsible for ensuring the security of this ear tag.
