DA Hike: Central government employees are looking forward to their Dearness Allowance (DA) for the first half of 2026. Typically, a decision regarding the DA for the first half is made around Holi, but this year it has been postponed. As a result, central government employees are keenly awaiting each cabinet meeting of the Narendra Modi administration. They are particularly interested in whether any decisions regarding allowances have been made during these meetings. Let’s delve into the details.
Several decisions were made during the meeting on Wednesday
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) convened once more on Wednesday, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this meeting, the government made several significant decisions. On Wednesday, the government sanctioned a grant of Rs 1,718.56 crore to the Cotton Corporation of India to support prices under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement system for the cotton season 2023-24. The Cabinet approved the funding for the reimbursement of price support provided under the Minimum Support Price (MSP) operations for cotton throughout the cotton season 2023-24 (from October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024).
Major initiative receives approval
Furthermore, on Wednesday, the government endorsed the Rs 33,660 crore “Bharat Industrial Development Scheme” (Bhavya) aimed at enhancing manufacturing. This initiative will see the establishment of 100 plug-and-play industrial parks nationwide. It is anticipated that this scheme will create around 1.5 million direct jobs. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav shared this announcement.
Under the ambitious plan, industrial parks ranging from 100 acres to 1,000 acres will be developed, with financial assistance of up to Rs 1 crore per acre. Plug-and-play parks are industrial zones with developed infrastructure where companies can immediately begin production or operations without lengthy preparation. These parks will provide basic infrastructure such as internal roads, underground utilities, drainage, waste management, and administrative infrastructure.
Additionally, value-added facilities such as ready-made factory sheds, custom-designed and tailored “built-to-suit” units, testing laboratories, warehouses, and worker housing will also be developed. Projects under the scheme will be selected through a “challenge mode,” ensuring that only investment-ready and improvement-oriented proposals are pursued.
– Further, the Union Cabinet has approved the Small Hydropower Development Scheme, which will promote clean energy, attract investment and create employment in rural and remote areas.
– Approval has been given to make the Barabanki-Bahraich section of the National Highway four-lane.
What happened to dearness allowance?
Once again, no decision was made on dearness allowance in the meeting. This means that central government employees will have to wait longer for a decision on their allowances. Currently, the dearness allowance for central government employees is 58 percent, and the dearness relief for pensioners is the same. Whenever the government takes a decision on allowances, millions of employees across the country will benefit, including retired employees.
