Credit Card Rules: Big news for credit card users. Several financial regulations are scheduled to be altered from July 1st, including changes to credit card regulations. State Bank of India (SBI) and HDFC Bank, two of the nation’s largest banks, are modifying the features and reward structures of some credit cards. These adjustments will affect reward points, airport lounge access, and various other benefits. It is advisable for credit card users to become familiar with their card’s updated regulations before July.
The modifications are aimed at adapting to evolving customer spending patterns and market demands. Nevertheless, some customers may find the benefits to be less favorable than before. Therefore, cardholders should make an effort to comprehend the new regulations.

HDFC Bank Updates Rewards and Lounge Access Policies
HDFC Bank has made changes to the rules governing its Regalia Gold and Diners Club Privilege credit cards. Reward point-related changes have already been put into effect, while alterations to airport lounge access will commence on July 1, 2026. Reward points earned on the Regalia Gold card will now be calculated differently. Customers must spend at least Rs 60,000 in the previous quarter to qualify for domestic airport lounge access. Diners Club Privilege cardholders will receive vouchers for domestic and international lounge visits upon reaching a specified spending threshold. The bank has not made significant adjustments to the card’s fees.
SBI Cards Introduces Reward Points Cap
– SBI Card has updated the guidelines for reward points earned on the PhonePe SBI Card Purple and PhonePe SBI Card Select Black, effective from July 1, 2026.
– A maximum monthly limit has been established for reward points on these cards, with separate caps for insurance and other expenses.
– Select Black cardholders will no longer earn reward points on specific transactions such as toll payments, gift card purchases, jewelry acquisitions, education-related payments, certain utility bills, insurance payments, and some UPI transactions outside the PhonePe platform.
Recommendations for Cardholders
– When selecting a credit card, it is important to consider not only reward points but also individual spending habits.
– Customers who frequently engage in airport travel, online shopping, or digital payments should assess the implications of the revised rules.
– If you hold HDFC or SBI cards, make sure to review the updated terms and conditions prior to July.
