If you want to get a new Aadhaar card made or update the old Aadhaar, then some important documents have to be given. UIDAI, the organization that oversees Aadhaar, has made some important changes regarding the document in 2025-26. UIDAI has also released a list of documents, which have to be used to get an Aadhaar card made or update the old Aadhaar.
On the other hand, UIDAI has clarified that if someone has more than one Aadhaar card, then only their first-issued Aadhaar will be valid. All the rest will be cancelled. Let us tell you which documents will be required to get an Aadhaar made or to update the old Aadhaar.
Who Will Apply for This Rule?
This updated document list issued by UIDAI is required for Indian citizens, Indian citizens living abroad (OCI card holders), Children above 5 years of age, and People living in India on a long-term visa (LTV).
What Documents Will Be Required to Make or Update a New Aadhaar?
UIDAI has fixed 4 types of documents regarding Aadhaar. Such as identity proof, proof of address, proof of date of birth, and proof of relationship, etc.
These Documents Will Be Required For Identity Proof
Documents like a passport, PAN card (e-PAN is also valid), voter ID card (EPIC), driving license, photo ID issued by the government/PSU, NREGA job card, pensioner ID card, CGHS/ECHS card, and transgender ID card will be required for identity proof.
Will These Documents Be Required For Address Proof?
Documents like electricity/water/gas/landline bill (less than 3 months old), bank passbook or bank statement, ration card, passport, driving license, rent agreement (registered), pension documents, and residence certificate issued by the state/central government will be required for address proof.
Will These Documents Be required to change the date of birth?
To change the date of birth, documents like school mark sheet, passport, pension document containing date of birth, and state/central government certificate containing date of birth will be required.

How to update Aadhaar online for free?
- First, log in to the ‘myAadhaar portal’.
- After this, upload the scanned copy of identity proof, address proof, proof of date of birth, proof of relationship, etc.
- After this, biometric verification or OTP verification will be done.
- After the update is complete, you can download e-Aadhaar.
