Is ₹7 actually a toll fee?

NHAI has clarified that the claim of a ₹7 toll fee is false and misleading. There is no such direct toll charge. Those hearing the ₹7 story are likely misunderstanding the effective per-trip cost of the ₹340 local monthly pass. This pass allows for 50 trips, and with a total cost of ₹340, the cost per trip is approximately ₹7.

The Real Mechanism of the ₹340 Monthly Pass

This pass, designed for local commuters, aims to provide relief to regular commuters.

The standard toll fee is approximately ₹220 for one-way travel and approximately ₹330 for a return travel pass. A non-local traveler purchasing a pass for 50 journeys would incur a total expenditure of ₹7,360. In contrast, the local commuter pass is available for only ₹340, significantly reducing the cost for daily commuters.

Pass Linked to FASTag, Easier Entry

NHAI has set up special registration counters at toll plazas where local passes are issued within approximately 20 to 30 minutes. This pass is directly linked to FASTag, eliminating the need for travelers to carry a separate card or receipt. Initially, during the management process, residents were provided with three toll-free lanes and temporary relief for a few days.
