Aadhaar Card Mandatory: Through Aadhaar card, people in many states across the country get the benefit of government schemes. In November 2019, UIDAI gave the state governments the right to do Aadhaar verification for state schemes. In such a situation, now the Rekha Gupta government of Delhi has announced that Aadhaar card will be mandatory for state government schemes.

Actually, the BJP government of Delhi had sent a proposal to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi VK Saxena regarding the mandatory use of Aadhar card and the Lieutenant Governor has approved it. Income certificate is an important document for getting financial benefits under many government schemes in the capital.

Lieutenant Governor issued a statement

A statement issued by Raj Niwas said that the move is aimed at eliminating any irregularities or malpractices in the issuance of income certificates to the applicants and thus ensuring that only the genuine beneficiaries registered under any scheme or financial assistance get the benefit.

The proposal given by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta provides for bringing the service of issuing income certificate under Section 7 of the Aadhaar Act, 2016. This provision allows the state or central government to make Aadhaar-based verification mandatory for the identification of persons receiving state subsidies, services or benefits.

Aadhar card is necessary for these schemes

The income certificate issued by the revenue department is used to determine eligibility for several welfare schemes, including tuition fee reimbursement for students from SC, ST and OBC communities; pension and health-related financial assistance under the Delhi Arogya Kosh.

In this regard, Revenue Department officials said that using Aadhaar will make it easier to provide services and transparency will also increase. Along with this, due to Aadhaar card, the benefits of schemes will reach only those people who are eligible for it.
