ATM Charges Hike– Big news for ATM Card holders. Axis Bank has announced a big change for its customers. The bank is increasing its ATM transaction charges from July 1, 2025. This change will apply to many types of accounts including savings accounts, NRI accounts and trust accounts.
Now if a customer exceeds the free ATM transaction limit every month, he will have to pay a fee of Rs 23 on every additional transaction.
Till now this fee was Rs 21. That is, now ₹2 more will have to be paid on every additional transaction. This new rate of the bank will be applicable on ATMs of both Axis Bank and other banks.
RBI directive from 1 May 2025
This change is in line with the revised ATM interchange fee guidelines implemented by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from May 1, 2025. RBI has also fixed the maximum number of free ATM transactions a customer can make per month.
In metro cities: 3 free ATM transactions per month
In non-metro cities: 5 free ATM transactions per month
Beyond these limits, a fee will be charged every time a financial transaction such as cash withdrawal or balance check is performed.
What is ATM interchange fee?
When you withdraw money from an ATM of a bank other than your own, your bank pays an interchange fee to that other bank. This fee is sometimes charged to the customer, especially when you use the ATM more than the free limit.
For example, if you are an HDFC Bank customer and withdraw money from an SBI ATM for the fourth time, an additional fee may be deducted from your account.
