The Mahashivratri festival is set to be celebrated nationwide on Wednesday, February 26. As a result, most banks will be closed in various regions across the country. If you’re wondering whether your local bank will be closed tomorrow, we’ve got all the details for you right here.
Which cities will have bank closures?
On Mahashivratri, banks will be shut down in nearly every part of the country. According to the Reserve Bank of India’s official website, closures will affect cities like Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Belapur, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, Srinagar, and Thiruvananthapuram.
Stock markets will also be closed
The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) holiday calendar indicates that the stock market will be closed on Mahashivratri, February 26, 2025. This means you won’t be able to buy or sell any shares on that day, and trading in the derivatives market will also be halted. This marks the first stock market holiday of the year 2025, with trading resuming on February 27, 2025, when you can buy and sell shares as usual.
Bank holidays vary by state
It’s important to note that bank holidays aren’t uniform across all states. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) provides a different list of holidays for each state. You can find the complete list of holidays, which includes various festivals and observances, on the official RBI website.
