Voter List: In a great democracy like India, every vote holds immense value. However, voters are often shocked when they arrive at the polling booth to discover that their name is missing from the voter list. To address this concern, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has released the new Special Intensive Revision (SIR) draft voter list for 2026.

If you recently applied for a new voter card or changed your address, it’s crucial for you to review this new list. In this article, we’ll explore the reasons for deletions in major states like Uttar Pradesh, how you can find your name online from home, and what steps you need to take before the final list is released on March 6, 2026.

What is the new SIR draft voter list 2026

SIR, or Special Intensive Revision, is a crucial and sensitive process of the Election Commission. Its primary objective is to ensure that the voter list is fully transparent and up-to-date. Three main tasks are performed during this process: first, the inclusion of names of young people who have recently turned 18, second, the removal of names of those who are no longer alive or have permanently relocated, and third, the elimination of duplicate entries for the same person.

In the vast state of Uttar Pradesh, the number of potential voters has reached approximately 125.5 million after this revision, while approximately 2.89 million names have been removed from the list. Please note that this is a ‘draft list’, meaning it is a preliminary list. Its final confirmation will only be in the ‘final voter list’ to be released on March 6, 2026.

How to check your name online from home

Now you don’t need to visit government offices to search for your name in the voter list. You can follow the simple steps below:

  • First, visit the Election Commission’s official portal, electoralsearch.eci.gov.in.
  • Click on the pop-up link for ‘Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026’ that appears on the screen.
  • You can now search by entering your EPIC number (Voter ID card number) or by filling in general information such as your name, your father’s name, and your state.
  • Enter the captcha code for security and click the SEARCH button.
  • If your name is on the list, complete information about your district, assembly constituency, and polling booth will appear on the screen.
  • If ‘No Result Found’ appears, it means your name is not included in this draft list, and you need to take immediate action.

If your name is missing from the list, do this immediately

If your name is missing from the list or there is an error in the details, the Election Commission has provided various forms for redressal. If your name has never been registered before or has been removed from the list, immediately fill out Form 6. If a name exists but there are errors in spelling, photo, or address, use Form 8 to correct it.

Also, if you need to remove the name of an ineligible or deceased person, Form 7 can be submitted. You can submit all these applications online through the Voter Helpline App or offline by visiting the BLO (Booth Level Officer) in your area.

Will you be able to vote without a name

Remember, simply having a Voter ID card (EPIC) does not guarantee voting rights. To vote, your name must be in the final voter list, which will be released on March 6, 2026. The draft list is released only to give you the opportunity to make corrections.

If you have applied for a correction, wait until the final list is released and double-check it. Remember to carry your original Voter ID card or any other identity card approved by the Commission on voting day. If you have moved to a new area, update your address in time so that your polling station is near you.
