UPI Advance Feature : A major shift toward making digital payments easier will be seen starting Wednesday, with a unique feature being added to UPI (Unified Payments Interface). The news agency Reuters reported this on Tuesday, citing sources. With the new feature, UPI payments will become even simpler.
According to a Reuters report, this unique feature may be available in UPI starting October 8th. After this, UPI users will be able to make payments using Face ID recognition and fingerprint verification. It is reported that under this new feature, the verification process for payments will be based on the biometric details stored in the user’s Aadhaar database.
Aadhaar data will be used
Previously, UPI payments only required a numeric PIN. This change is in line with new RBI guidelines, which allow alternative verification methods. This means that starting tomorrow, UPI users can now use biometric verification instead of PIN verification to make payments.
It is being told that this new feature will complete the verification process with the help of biometric details stored in the Aadhaar database. According to Reuters, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the organization that manages UPI, is planning to showcase this new feature of UPI at the Global Fintech Festival being held in Mumbai.
What will be the benefit?
Until now, UPI payments required a 4- or 6-digit PIN. However, with the new feature, users will be able to make payments using biometric details like fingerprint and Face ID, in addition to the PIN. This change will not only make payments easier but also faster and safer, and will also increase user confidence in digital transactions. However, till the time of writing this news, no official information has been revealed by NPCI regarding the new feature.
