Finance Ministry’s direct and clear answer on UPI

The Finance Ministry further said in its post that an attempt is being made to create panic by spreading such unnecessary panic. The ministry has clarified that the government has no intention of imposing any additional charges on UPI transactions. This clarification puts a full stop to all the speculations that were troubling UPI users.

It is worth noting that in June 2025, there were more transactions through UPI than Visa transactions. This is proof of the unprecedented popularity and reliability of UPI. On June 1, 2025, 64.4 crore transactions were done through UPI, and the very next day this figure crossed 65 crores. This figure is more than the 64 crore UPI transactions done a year ago, i.e. in the financial year 2025, which shows its rapid growth.

The booklet states,“The digital payment revolution in India has attracted the attention of the whole world.” In March 2025, 1,830.151 crore UPI transactions took place on the Unified Payment Interface (UPI),whose total value was approximately ₹ 24.77 lakh crore (approx. ₹ 24.77 Lakh Crore). About 50 percent of these transactions are classified as small or extremely small payments, which shows the reach of UPI to the common man.

The booklet released on Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) also said that the Modi government has effectively used technology and digital tools to ensure transparency in governance and prevent corruption.
