In Rampur, ‘G’ series numbers were given to private vehicles like free gifts. The transport department is now strict about giving government numbers to private vehicles. From now, ‘G’ series numbers will be removed from all private vehicles.
Even in the auction of government vehicles, the buyer will not get the ‘G’ series number. A new number will be given after the auction. The owners of vehicles that already have ‘G’ series numbers will get 60 days to change them.
New Rules for ‘G’ Number Series
The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department said that all ‘G’ series numbers are only for government vehicles. After the auction or transfer of a government vehicle, when it goes to private ownership, the ‘G’ mark will become invalid. A new private registration number will be given.
This rule is under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 and the Motor Vehicle Rules of 1989 and 1998.
What Vehicle Owners Must Do
All vehicles with ‘G’ numbers in private use must go to the Regional Transport Office (ARTO). They must get a new registration number, a new RC, and a new high-security number plate (HSRP). This process must be done within 60 days. Only the fee for reprinting the RC and HSRP will be charged.
If this is not done in time, the RC can be suspended. Insurance and tax will not be affected.
The Transport Commissioner said that using ‘G’ numbers on private vehicles is not allowed. Owners must change to a new number within 60 days. The process is simple and clear. Legal action will be taken if there is any delay.
Why This Change is Needed
- ‘G’ numbers are only for government vehicles. Their use on private vehicles is against the rules.
- ‘G’ is a government identity. If private vehicles use it, it can cause misuse at tolls and entry checks.
- New RC and HSRP numbers make sure challan and toll systems work correctly.
