Nowadays LPG gas cylinders have become a necessity for every household. It is difficult to survive without cooking gas and when the prices of everything are rising rapidly, getting some relief in the price of gas cylinders also becomes great news for the people. In early May 2025, oil companies made some changes in the prices of LPG cylinders.

The special thing is that this time commercial cylinders have become cheaper, while the prices of domestic cylinders remain stable! This has directly benefited hotels, restaurants, and small traders. This is a sigh of relief for all those who were worried about their business or household budget.

Why do LPG cylinder prices change

LPG cylinder prices change every month and these changes depend on crude oil rates in the international market, exchange rates, and government policies. In April 2025, the price of domestic cylinders was increased by ₹50, which worsened the budget of common households.

But the relief in May was that the 19 kg commercial cylinder has become cheaper from about ₹ 14.50 to ₹ 17. Although there has been no change in the price of domestic cylinders, the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana are still getting the benefit of the subsidy. This shows that prices are affected by many factors.

Domestic LPG Cylinder Prices

If we talk about domestic LPG cylinders, a 14.2 kg cylinder is now available at ₹853 in Delhi, ₹852.50 in Mumbai, ₹879 in Kolkata and ₹868.50 in Chennai. It is available in Lucknow for ₹ 840.50, Chandigarh for ₹ 812.50, Bengaluru for ₹ 805.50, Jaipur for ₹ 806.50, Patna for ₹ 892.50 and Hyderabad for ₹ 855. These prices are without subsidy.

Under the Ujjwala Yojana, poor and needy families are getting this cylinder for just ₹553. This is giving relief to those families whose income is low and who are troubled by the increasing cost of gas every month. This information will help you plan your monthly budget.

‘Big’ relief in commercial cylinder prices

Now let’s talk about the 19 kg commercial cylinder, which has got relief in price in May 2025. This cylinder is now available in Delhi at ₹ 1,747.50. It is available in Mumbai at ₹ 1,699, in Kolkata at ₹ 1,851.50, and in Chennai at ₹ 1,906.

This is the second consecutive month when the prices of commercial gas cylinders have been reduced. This has directly benefited those running hotels, dhabas, catering, and food businesses, as the expenditure on gas has been reduced a bit. This is good news for businessmen.

‘Subsidy’ under Ujjwala Yojana

The government has continued to provide subsidies on LPG to poor women and families under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Under this scheme, beneficiaries get a 14.2 kg cylinder for just ₹553.

The subsidy amount is sent directly to the bank account, which maintains transparency. So far, more than 10 crore families have been linked to this scheme, and especially in rural areas, this scheme is proving to be effective in freeing women from smoke. It is bringing a revolutionary change in rural India.
