The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has decided to extend medical benefits to transgender dependents under the Central Health Services Scheme and the Central Services Rules 1944. With this, transgender children and siblings of central government employees and pensioners will be able to avail of these benefits regardless of age.

According to an office memorandum issued by the government, transgender children and siblings of dependents of central government employees and pensioners can now avail of medical benefits regardless of age. This means that these dependents will no longer be subject to age restrictions.
They will be entitled to full medical facilities. Furthermore, this government decision is considered a significant step towards ensuring equality, social justice, and inclusiveness for the transgender community.
Additionally, this decision is in accordance with the provisions of the Transgender Persons Act 2019. The government order, dated September 16, 2025, clarifies that only transgender children or siblings will be eligible for these benefits.
