UPI- This feature of UPI is going to be closed, Big decision by UPI

UPI- In view of the increasing cases of online fraud through UPI in the country, NPCI has taken a big decision. UPI’s ‘Collect Request’ feature will be discontinued from October 1, 2025. The purpose of this step is to protect customers from fraud and make UPI transactions more secure.

What was the ‘Collect Request’ feature?

Through the Collect Request feature, users could send money requests to other people. For example, if you had to collect Rs 1,000 from Mr A, you would send a request from your UPI app. After this, a notification would come on Mr A’s phone and as soon as he entered the PIN, the money would be transferred to your account.

This feature was originally introduced for people in need and as a reminder to make it easier to receive and give money.

However, fraudsters started misusing this facility. Many times, in the name of lottery or fake offers, customers were called or sent messages asking them to approve the request and enter the PIN. People thought that the money would come to their account, but as soon as they entered the PIN, the money went directly to the fraudsters’ account.

According to NPCI, this type of fraud was increasing continuously and it was decided to stop it for the safety of the customers.

NPCI’s statement

NPCI said that from October 1, users will not be able to send requests for money to other users. This will reduce cases of online fraud and UPI transactions will be more secure. NPCI has clarified that discontinuing this feature will not have any impact on the normal service of UPI. Normal UPI transactions like sending and receiving money will continue as before. Every month around 16 billion UPI transactions take place and cases of fraud were constantly increasing. This is the reason why NPCI took the step of discontinuing the collect request. This decision will protect customers from online fraud and the use of UPI will become more secure.
