Aadhaar Update Rules: In today’s time, the Aadhaar card is no longer just an identity card; it has become the foundation of almost every essential task. From banking services to government schemes, subsidies, pensions, and document verification, Aadhaar is required everywhere. If the information, such as name, date of birth, address, gender, and mobile number, recorded in your Aadhaar is incorrect, your work can get stalled. UIDAI provides Aadhaar holders with the facility to update their information, but there are limits to each change.
Rules for Changing Name in Aadhaar
According to UIDAI rules, changing your name on your Aadhaar card is subject to limitations. A person can update their name a maximum of two times in their entire lifetime. This facility is especially for those who need to correct the spelling of their name or change their surname after marriage. However, changing the name more than twice is not allowed, so it is important to be very careful while applying.
Strict Rules for Date of Birth Correction
If the date of birth is incorrectly recorded in your Aadhaar card, you get only one chance to correct it. This facility is provided by UIDAI only once in a lifetime. Once the DOB is updated, it is not possible to change it again. Therefore, if a mistake remains even after the first attempt, you may face problems later in banking, examinations, or government services.
Limit on Gender Update
UIDAI’s rules regarding gender information are quite clear and strict. If the selection of male, female, or other is incorrect in the Aadhaar card, the opportunity to correct it is given only once. According to UIDAI, gender can be updated only once in a lifetime. Therefore, the documents and information should be completely accurate at the time of this change.
Rules for Changing Address
Compared to name, date of birth, and gender, the rules for address updates are quite flexible. You can change your address in your Aadhaar card multiple times as needed. If you have moved to a new house, changed cities, or shifted to a rented accommodation, the new address can be easily updated. Providing valid address proof is necessary for this.
Complete freedom to update your mobile number
The mobile number linked to your Aadhaar is now extremely important, as most services send OTPs to this number. UIDAI gives Aadhaar holders complete freedom to update their mobile numbers. You can change your mobile number multiple times if needed. There is no fixed limit, ensuring that Aadhaar-related services continue without interruption.
