The Income Tax Department has launched TAXASSIST to help crores of taxpayers in the country. With this tool, people filing their income tax returns can easily get answers to their questions and file their returns without any trouble.

While sharing details about this new service, the Income Tax Department said that TAXASSIST has been created to make tax-related problems easy to understand and solve.

The department gave an example to explain how this tool can help taxpayers who are claiming tax exemption under Section 80GGC. This section gives tax benefits to those who donate money to a political party or electoral trust.

To make it easy to understand, the department shared three different situations. These examples show how the TAXASSIST tool can help taxpayers clearly present their claims, reply to any notices, and fix issues quickly. This new tool has been launched to bring more transparency and to make the tax process simple for everyone.

Case 1: Wrong Exemption Claim

If a person has claimed tax exemption by mistake under Section 80GGC, then TAXASSIST will tell them to revise the return or file ITR-U. They will also have to pay the tax and interest and return the extra refund they got. If they do not do this, the Income Tax Department may take action or charge a penalty.

Case 2: Fake Donation Claim

If someone shows a fake donation to a political party to get tax exemption, it will be called tax cheating. In this case, TAXASSIST will tell the person to file ITR-U and pay the correct tax and interest. This can help them avoid legal trouble.

Case 3: Real Donation Claim

If the donation is made to a real political party, then the claim is correct. TAXASSIST will advise the person to keep the donation receipt and bank proof safe, because they may need it later if the department checks the details. This step will help make the tax system simple and clear.

New Last Date to File ITR – September 15

The Income Tax Department has given more time to file the income tax return. Earlier, the last date was July 31, but now it is September 15, 2025, for the financial year 2024–25. This will give relief to many taxpayers.
