Big news for Ration Card holders. Over the years like other things ration cards are also now very document to have. But Kamla Singh, the supply officer for Deori in Giridih district, shared some important news with reporters on Saturday. The Deputy Commissioner and Magistrate of Giridih has laid out the rules for those who are not eligible for ration cards.

If someone falls into this category, they need to hand over their ration cards. If they don’t, any rations they’ve taken will be reclaimed with a 12 percent interest charge.

A Call for Help

If ineligible individuals are found taking rations each month using their cards, they could face legal action, and the government will recover the rations at the market rate plus a 12 percent annual interest. Singh is urging everyone—PDS operators, social workers, and residents in the area—to help spread the word and support government efforts.

Who’s Not Eligible for Ration Cards

The following groups are considered ineligible for ration cards: employees of the central and state governments, income tax and service tax payers, commercial tax payers, those who own more than five acres of irrigated land, owners of four-wheeled vehicles, and individuals with houses that have three or more concrete rooms.
