The objective of this scheme is to provide financial support to the daughters of the country for a secure future, higher education, and marriage. Since then, crores of families across the country have adopted this scheme.

People trust the post office more

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Benefits

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana account can be opened in both a bank and a post office, but most people’s choice is still the postal department. In the state, 82.33 percent of accounts have been opened in post offices, while only 17.67 percent of accounts have been opened in banks. According to the data, so far, three crore 61 lakh 84 thousand 271 accounts have been opened across the country. 48 lakh 42 thousand accounts are active in Uttar Pradesh, out of which 39 lakh 86 thousand 601 accounts are being operated in the postal department.

1.20 lakh new accounts in special campaign

Chief Post Master General of Uttar Pradesh Circle Pranav Kumar informed that a special campaign was run from 22 July to 19 August, in which one lakh 20 thousand new accounts were opened in the entire state. Under the scheme, there is a facility to deposit a minimum of Rs 250 and a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh in a financial year.

Interest and tax exemption facility

Post Master General of Lucknow Headquarters Circle Sunil Kumar Rai said that this scheme is one of the most beneficial schemes for higher education and the marriage of girls. An 8.2 percent annual interest is being given in this scheme. Also, a tax exemption is available on the deposited amount under Section 80C of the Income Tax Act.

Withdrawal from the account and rules

The parents or guardians of the girl can open an account before she turns 10 years old. Deposits can be made in the account for 15 years, while the entire amount can be withdrawn 21 years after opening the account. If the girl child turns 18, 50 percent of the amount can be withdrawn from the account for her higher education. There is also a facility to close the account after the age of 18 in case of marriage.
