The name Wow Momo (Wow! Momo Success Story) was once a household name among Bengalis who love Momo. Now, the company has been involved in the terrible fire in Anandapur. The company’s warehouse workers died in that terrible accident. Now, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has assured financial assistance to the families of the deceased workers. However, in her speech, she also said that Wow Momo will also compensate the families of the deceased along with the state government. As soon as the name Wow Momo came up in the Chief Minister’s mouth, curiosity about the company increased.
How did Wow Momo make its way in the Indian market?
Wow Momo, a successful company in the Indian food sector, has a long history. The company’s journey began in 2008 with the help of two friends Sagar Daryani and Vinod Homagai. Initially, they used to sell momos at a small stall on the streets of South Kolkata. From there, Wow Momo’s journey began. It is known that the two young people started the momo business with a capital of just 30 thousand rupees.
2008. Social media was not that active then. So Wow Momo had to come to people’s attention through the quality of the food. That’s what two friends Sagar and Vinod did. Those who used to come to eat Momo at that small stall would later tell their relatives about Wow Momo. From there, the stall of the two friends became popular through word of mouth. The most important thing is that at that time, Sagar did not have any branding or franchise concept in mind.

However, over time, as the sales of Momo increased, they gradually started increasing their outlets. After that, the two also named the shop, that is, branded it. From there, Wow Momo spread to different parts of the country, favored by young people. As of 2021, Wow Momo had 425 outlets in at least 19 cities in India.

However, today, i.e., as of 2026, this company has outlets in every major city in India. Vinod and Sagar’s company is currently operating its business under the names Wow China! and Wow Chicken! Let us tell you that Wow Momo’s annual turnover in the financial year 2024-25 exceeded Rs 640 crore. The company has set an annual turnover target of Rs 850 crore in the new financial year.
It is worth noting that Wow Momo has already issued a statement regarding the Anandpur fire incident. The company has blamed the owner of the warehouse next door for the entire incident. The company claims that the owner of the warehouse in the rented house in Anandpur where the fire broke out also had his own decorator business. He has a warehouse next door. When the fire broke out there first, three employees of Wow Momo’s warehouse were burnt to death. The company has already assured to provide compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased in this incident.
