Ration Cards: A big news is coming from Darbhanga where it is very important for the poor families living below the poverty line to get government ration for their life. Under the Public Distribution System, these families get free ration every month so that their stomachs are full. But the problem is that many families have more than one ration card and different people of the same family keep collecting ration from different cards. Sometimes ration fraud is being done by making many cards in the name of husband, sometimes in the name of son, and sometimes in one’s own name.

The news of this fraud is continuously reaching the supply department. After the implementation of One Nation One Ration Card, the matter has become even more complicated. Many people, despite being from the same family, are collecting ration from different districts or states. Due to this, the government is suffering a lot and ration is not reaching the right needy.

The complaints received in the DM’s public court

When people lodged complaints related to ration in the public court of the District Magistrate of Darbhanga, the supply department lost its sleep. That is why the department launched the ‘Ration Card Purity Campaign’, so that fake or non-eligible cards can be identified and canceled. The help of PDS dealers, Vikas Mitra, and complainants is being taken in this campaign. The special team of the department is keeping a close watch on it in the entire district.

According to the information, from January to December 2022, more than sixteen thousand ration cards have been canceled in all three subdivisions. These include cards of Antyodaya and PM Garib families. This campaign will continue continuously so that only the right beneficiaries get government ration.

Large number of ration cards canceled in many subdivisions

The maximum number of cards have been canceled in the Sadar subdivision of Darbhanga district. More than six thousand cards have been canceled here permanently and thousands of cards have been removed automatically even from the SDO level. Thousands of cards have also been removed from the system in Biraul and Benipur subdivisions.

Thousands of ration cards were also deleted between July and December 2022, which clearly shows that the department is continuously engaged in this work. Despite this, lakhs of ration cards are still active in the district and lakhs of people are dependent on the grains of the public distribution system.

Ration distribution system and beneficiary class

Antyodaya card holders get 14 kg rice and 7 kg wheat per card, which is a great help for them. At the same time, cardholders under PM Garib Parivahan get 4 kg rice and 1 kg wheat per person. This ration is given free of cost so that the poor families do not feel hungry and their financial condition can improve somewhat.

Ration card cleaning campaign

During this campaign, many such people came to the fore who were not actually eligible, but they had made ration cards in their name and were taking wrong advantage of government ration. The department has clearly warned that strict legal action will be taken against those ineligible people who do not voluntarily stop misusing ration cards.

The campaign will continue

In-charge DSO Rakesh Ranjan has said that this campaign will continue and cleanliness will be ensured in the matter of ration cards. The rights of the poor and the needy will be protected, but the department will take strict action against those who take wrong advantage of the system.

Every poor family of Darbhanga should get the right ration, so that their stomach remains full and life is better. The administration is working hard in this work and it is hoped that this campaign will reduce corruption and help will reach the right people.
