Ration Card– Ration distribution in Delhi which was stopped from August 1 is already resume from Friday. The central government has directed the food supply department of Delhi to distribute ration till August 31 which will provide relief to about 2.5 lakh card holders. Ration dealers have expressed their gratitude.
The Department of Food and Public Distribution under the Central Government on Thursday issued written instructions to this effect to the Food Supply Department of Delhi. It is worth noting that keeping in mind the monsoon season, the Centre had directed other states including Delhi to lift the ration for the months of June, July and August from the FCI godowns in May itself.
Also, it was said to distribute the ration by 30th June so that card holders do not face any problem during the rains. But when due to various reasons the ration could not be distributed by 30th June, on the request of many states, the time period for distribution of ration was extended by one month to 31st July.
But in Delhi, due to connecting the e-POS machines to electric scales, ration could not be distributed for almost 10 days. Later this order was withdrawn but there was not enough time for distribution of ration. The option of sale stopped appearing in the e-POS machines connected to National Informatics Centre (NIC) from August 1. Ration distribution can start only when the option of sale appears again.
On Thursday, the Department of Food and Public Distribution under the Central Government, Jai Patil, Joint Director of the Food Supply Department of Delhi, issued instructions to the Principal Secretary of the Food Supply Department of the Delhi Government to extend the deadline for ration distribution till August 31.
