Ration Card– A big news has come out for ration card holders. The government has made it mandatory for ration card holders to get eKYC done. The government has clearly said that it is very important to get eKYC done for every member included in the ration card. Just getting eKYC done for the head of the family will not work. If this is not done then the ration card can be cancelled. Along with this, the free wheat and rice will be stopped.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY), the poor are provided free ration by the government. In such a situation, it is necessary for those who get free ration to do eKYC. This information has been given by the Department of Food and Public Distribution on the social media platform X.
Ration card will be cancelled without eKYC
The Department of Food and Public Distribution of the Government of India has said that free ration is your right under the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana and your right will be protected by eKYC. Therefore, get eKYC done for all the members registered in the ration card and avoid future inconvenience.
Overall, if you do not get eKYC done for the ration card, it may be cancelled. In such a situation, the free ration provided may stop being available. Now Aadhaar based verification is necessary not only for the head of the family but also for all the members of the ration card.
Let us tell you that the main objective of the government is to bring transparency in the ration distribution system and to provide the benefits of ration to the right people. For this, e-KYC is an important step. In this process, the ration card holder is matched with the Aadhar card, which ensures that only the right person is getting the benefit of ration.
What is PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana?
Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) was started in March 2020 during the COVID-19 crisis, so that the poor and needy could be given free food grains every month. This scheme has been expanded in several phases so far. At present, about 80.67 crore eligible beneficiaries are getting free ration. This includes all things like wheat, rice.
This scheme is applicable across the country through the ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ (ONORC) system under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). In such a situation, beneficiaries can take ration anywhere. The government has extended this scheme for the next 5 years from January 1, 2024, i.e. now it is going to run till December 2028.
