In total, 49,810 cards were cancelled in Jammu and Kashmir. The figures for cancelled ration cards in Ladakh over the past five years are as follows:
2021: 614
2022: 30
2023: 58
2024: 615
2025: 764
The ministry stated that among the cancelled cards, many were those whose beneficiaries were over 100 years of age, some were duplicates, some were in the names of minors, and some had no entries at all. This action is aimed at ensuring that only poor and needy families receive free food grains under PMGKAY and that fraudulent or fake beneficiaries are not able to access the scheme. This will also enhance the credibility and accuracy of the scheme in states and union territories.
Officials say that regular verifications and audits like these will continue in the future to make the ration distribution system more transparent and effective. Overall, the cancellations in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh indicate that the government is keeping the scheme on track by implementing strict monitoring and verification procedures.
