New Delhi: With the Diwali festival over, preparations for Chhath Puja are now in full swing. Like every other year, railway stations are already overflowing with people. People are lining up to buy tickets for the general coaches to go home. Reserved tickets are not available even on Tatkal tickets. Due to the influx of people, Indian Railways has taken a major step.

Now, passengers will face no problems. The Railways is running 1,500 special trains, ensuring safe and secure travel for every passenger. All these trains will run for the next five days. Passengers will be able to travel safely and without any hassles.

How many trains will run for five days?

According to Indian Railways, this important decision has been taken due to the increased number of passengers during Chhath Puja. According to the Railway Ministry, the purpose of these trains is to reduce congestion during the festive season and provide a comfortable travel experience for passengers. Previously, the Railways operated 4,493 special train trips over 21 days.

This translates to an average of 213 trips per day. This time, even more trains are being arranged for the Chhath festival. According to the Railway Ministry, during this festive season, a plan has been made to operate over 12,000 special trains over a total of 61 days, between October 1 and November 30, 2025. Notifications for 11,865 trips have been issued so far. These include 9,338 reserved and 2,203 unreserved trips.

How many passengers travelled until October 19?

According to Indian Railways, over 10 million passengers travelled on these special trains between October 1 and October 19, 2025. Additionally, according to the Delhi Zone, 15.17 lakh passengers travelled from New Delhi, Anand Vihar, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Shakur Basti, and Delhi stations between October 16 and 19.

This is an increase of 1.51 lakh passengers compared to last year. For your information, the number of passengers reaches record levels annually during the festive season. To anticipate this year’s rush, the Railways has already decided to run 3,960 special trains between October 1 and 19.
