For some time now, the Railway Department has made many changes in the ticket booking rules to make the process easier and more helpful for passengers. Now, once again, Railways has changed a rule. This time, the change is for the Emergency Quota (EQ). This new rule has been made to improve the system and to solve the problems that happen at the last moment.
What Has Changed in Emergency Quota?
The Ministry of Railways has issued a new rule for applying under the emergency quota. As per the new circular, passengers must now submit their emergency quota (EQ) request one day before their journey date. This rule has been applied to all trains across the country.
What is Emergency Quota?
Emergency quota is a set number of seats reserved by Railways for people who need to travel in urgent situations. Earlier, passengers could apply for it on the same day of travel. But now, due to the new rule, they must apply a day in advance.
Who Will Get the Benefit?
Emergency quota seats are first given to senior government officers, MPs, and similar officials based on their seniority. After them, the quota is given for cases like senior citizens, medical emergencies, job interviews, and other special needs.
New Rule for Applying Emergency Quota
- For trains running between 12:00 am and 1:00 pm, the emergency quota request must be submitted by 1:00 pm a day before.
- For trains running between 1:01 pm and 11:59 pm, the emergency quota request must also be submitted by 1:00 pm the day before.
- If your train is on a Sunday or public holiday, you must apply on a working day before that.
Other Rules Changed by Railways
- Now, the reservation chart will be prepared 8 hours before the train’s departure. Earlier, it was done only 4 hours before. This will help passengers get a chance to book another ticket if theirs is not confirmed.
- Aadhaar is now mandatory for Tatkal ticket bookings. Without Aadhaar verification, you cannot book Tatkal tickets. Also, OTP linked to your Aadhaar is now required for online Tatkal booking from July 15.
- If you have a waiting ticket, you are not allowed to travel in sleeper or AC coaches. This change will help make travel smoother and more comfortable for confirmed passengers.
