UPI rules: As of August 1, 2025, UPI will be implementing new regulations. Strict restrictions will now apply to transaction status, autopay timings, and balance checks. Understand the impact on your regular transactions.

Warning to Users of UPI

It is crucial that you are aware of this news if you utilize apps like Paytm, PhonePe, or Google Pay. Actually, starting on August 1, many of UPI-related regulations will change, significantly altering the lives of regular people. Tell us about them, as this will make UPI more secure and dependable.

Rule 1: New balance-checking limit

Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and other UPI apps will only be permitted to check balances 50 times per app per day starting on August 1, 2025. When a person uses two UPI apps, such as Paytm and PhonePe, simultaneously, both apps will permit 50-50 balance checks from him, meaning that 100 checks in total are available. However, this will be restricted for each app.

Rule 2: Only non-peak hours will now be subject to autopay needs.

OTT subscriptions (Netflix, Amazon Prime), SIP, EMI debit, and other autopay mandates issued via UPI will only be performed during non-peak hours, namely before 10 AM, between 1 PM and 5 PM, and after 9:30 PM, as of August 1.

Rule 3: Additionally, restrictions on checking the status of transactions

Banks and consumers frequently check the status of UPI transactions frequently when they are pending or stopped. The initial transaction status check can only be performed 90 seconds or more after the transaction has been authenticated, according to the regulations that went into force on August 1.

After 90 seconds, check the status.

If the transaction is not immediately apparent, do not keep checking ||status||. Try checking again after 90 seconds, and no more than three times, if the status is not displayed. Get in touch with customer service if you have not received the status yet. Frequent checks could cause the system to lag.
