According to the rules of Indian Railways, passengers can pull the chain during train journey only in emergency situations. For example, if there is a medical emergency, or a fire in the train, or a robbery taking place in the train, or if there is a case of looting, or if a fellow passenger is left behind at the station.

In which a child, handicapped or elderly person is involved. Even then you can pull the chain. But many people pull the chain even without any reason. But doing this is a punishable offense by law and you may have to pay a fine for doing this. So along with this you may also have to suffer punishment.

But if someone pulls the chain without any reason, then he is punished under Section 141 of the Indian Railway Act. Section 141 of the Indian Railway Act states that pulling the chain without any reason is a crime. If any passenger traveling in a moving train pulls the chain without any solid reason or cause. So he may have to go to jail. According to the rules, the minimum punishment can be one year. At the same time, a fine of one thousand rupees can be imposed which can go up to one thousand rupees.
