Railway Luggage Rules: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav made a significant announcement in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, December 17. Responding to a question in the Lok Sabha, Ashwini Vaishnav said that passengers will now have to pay an additional fee for carrying extra luggage on trains.
Lok Sabha MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy asked Ashwini Vaishnav about carrying extra luggage on trains. In response, the Railway Minister stated that extra luggage would be charged.

Ashwini Vaishnav stated that currently, maximum limits have been set for the number of luggage passengers can carry in their compartments, by category. The Railway Minister shared this information in writing with the House.
How much luggage can you carry in second class?
According to information presented in Parliament, passengers traveling in second class can carry a maximum of 35 kilograms of weight without any charge. If you wish to carry more than this, you can carry up to 70 kilograms. Passengers will be charged a fee for carrying this excess baggage.
Sleeper class passengers can carry up to 40 kg of luggage free of charge, while passengers travelling in this compartment will be allowed to carry up to 80 kg of luggage. Passengers travelling in AC 3 tier or chair car can carry luggage weighing up to a maximum of 40 kg and this is the limit for them.
