The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched in May 2016 and recently completed its 9 years. Under this scheme, a subsidy of ₹ 300 will be available on a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder for a maximum of nine refills per year. The benefit will also be available in the same proportion on 5 kg cylinders. While the price of a 14.2 kg cylinder for a general customer in Delhi is ₹ 853, the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana will get this cylinder for ₹ 553. This move will provide relief to low-income families from the rising prices of LPG, and they will be able to use the cylinder without any hassle.

Oil companies get relief of ₹ 30,000 crore

Meanwhile, the government has also approved government assistance of ₹ 30,000 crore to three public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs).

Why was assistance given

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that this help has been given in view of the ongoing uncertainties and geopolitical situation in the oil and gas sector.

How will the payment be made

This amount will be given to the oil companies in 12 installments. The government said that international prices of LPG have been very high since 2024-25, due to which the companies have suffered huge losses. Despite this loss, these companies ensured the supply of domestic LPG in the country at low prices.

On one hand, this decision will directly benefit the beneficiaries of Ujjwala Yojana, while on the other hand, oil companies will also get financial stability. This is an important step for the government, which is beneficial for both the general public and the oil industry.
