The name of this scheme is PM-WANI (Prime Minister’s Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) and its purpose is to promote public Wi-Fi network across the country.

The government wants common citizens, small shopkeepers, tea sellers, stationery sellers or even village people to become a part of the digital network and also become a digital entrepreneur. Let us understand in this article what is PM-WANI scheme, how it works and how you can earn money from it.

What is PM-WANI scheme?

PM-WANI is a public Wi-Fi network infrastructure approved by the government in December 2020. Its aim is to provide cheap and easy internet in every corner of India, especially in those areas where the network is weak or mobile data is expensive. Under this scheme, any person or shopkeeper can convert his internet into a public Wi-Fi hotspot and earn money by charging people using it.

How to become a PM-WANI partner?

There are four types of partners in PM-WANI, but becoming a PDO (Public Data Office) is the easiest and most beneficial for common users. For this, follow these steps:

Get a good internet connection – like unlimited plan from Jio, Airtel, BSNL etc
Get a Wi-Fi hotspot device
Connect with a PDOA (Public Data Office Aggregator) – like C-DOT
Register by visiting pmwani.gov.in
Set up your data plan and start the service
There are no licenses or fees required and once setup, you can start providing digital services.

How will the security and tracking be?

User has to login with OTP verification and mobile number
All transactions are recorded
Network management is controlled via PDOA
User data is end-to-end encrypted

How much can be earned from PM-WANI?

In PM-WANI, you can share your Wi-Fi network publicly and earn money by selling data plans on it. These plans are very cheap, so that even common people can easily use the internet, and this is how you earn income.
1GB data, 1 day validity – for around Rs 6
2GB data, 2 days validity – for Rs 9
5GB data, 3 days validity – for Rs 18
20GB data, 7 days validity – for Rs 25
40GB data, 14 days validity – for Rs 49
100GB data, 30 days validity – for Rs 99

Each of these plans will give you a fixed margin or commission, which is usually a few rupees on every transaction. If even 15-20 users take internet from your hotspot daily, then you can earn from Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000 per month. Earnings will also depend on where your hotspot is, how much traffic there is and how many users you are able to add.
