PM Vishwakarma Yojana: The Government of India is continuously implementing new schemes to make the poor, labourers, and people associated with traditional professions self-reliant. As part of these efforts, the central government has launched the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Kaushal Samman Yojana, which aims to give a modern identity and economic strength to traditional businesses that have been passed down for centuries.

When was the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana launched?

The central government launched the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana on September 17, 2023. This scheme is specifically designed for artisans and labourers who are involved in traditional handicrafts and have so far remained outside the organised financial system.

Who is eligible for the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana?

This scheme benefits people associated with 18 traditional professions. This includes barbers, blacksmiths, hammer and tool makers, cobblers, stone breakers and carvers, sculptors, masons, fishermen (net makers), basket, mat and broom makers, lock makers, boat builders, garland makers, doll and toy makers, washermen, tailors, and other artisans.

What is the age requirement for the application?

To apply for the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, the applicant must be at least 18 years old. Individuals younger than this age are not considered eligible for this scheme.

What is the application process?              

If a person wants to avail the benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana, they can apply by visiting their nearest Common Service Centre (CSC). Eligibility is checked, and the necessary documents are verified there. After all formalities are completed, the application is accepted. Interested beneficiaries can also apply online through the scheme’s official website, pmvishwakarma.gov.in.

Key benefits of the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana

Under this scheme, beneficiaries receive advanced training related to their work, so that they can further enhance their traditional skills with modern techniques. During the training period, a daily stipend of ₹500 is provided. In addition, a grant of ₹15,000 is given to purchase a toolkit. For starting or expanding a business, an initial loan of ₹1 lakh is provided at a low interest rate, repayable over 18 months. Subsequently, eligible beneficiaries can receive an additional loan of up to ₹2 lakh for a period of 30 months.
