PM Suryoday Yojana Update: The Modi government recently unveiled the PM Suryodaya Yojana, a groundbreaking initiative in the electricity sector that promises significant benefits for the public.
The budget announcement included the PM Suryodaya Yojana, which focuses on promoting rooftop solar installations. The government will initially assist one crore families in installing solar rooftops. This will not only help them achieve zero electricity bills but also enable them to generate and sell excess electricity, creating an additional income source.
The Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana will cover the entire cost of installing solar rooftop systems. This will provide up to 300 kilowatts of electricity per month to one crore low-income families. This article will provide you with all the latest updates, key benefits, application process, and more information about this special government scheme.
What is the Plan?
Power and New and Renewable Energy Minister RK Singh announced that the Center will bear the entire cost of installing rooftop solar (RTS) systems. He said, “We are currently working on this scheme. These 300 units are consumed largely by the lower middle class. Taking a loan is a problem for them. We intend to increase the subsidy on RTS. Right now, the subsidy (under the Rooftop Solar Program) is 40 percent. For this scheme, we want to increase it to about 60 percent. The remaining 40 percent will be a loan, but it will be taken by power sector CPSEs. For special category states, the subsidy will be 70 percent.”
How Much Will Be the Savings?
The Finance Minister stated that under this scheme, more than one crore families will receive 300 units of free electricity, which will illuminate their homes. Under this scheme, rooftop solar systems will be installed on the roofs of one crore homes. People will save Rs 15,000 to Rs 18,000. The key feature is that the government will implement this scheme in such a way that people will not have to pay any money to install the solar system.
