PM Surya Ghar Yojana: Rising electricity bills across the country are taking a toll on ordinary people. The monthly expense is straining the household budgets of many families. Consequently, people are now looking for alternatives to reduce electricity costs. Installing solar panels on rooftops has emerged as an effective solution in recent times. Fortunately, there’s no need to go through a lengthy and complicated process.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, the government has completely digitized the application process. Registration for the scheme is now possible through a mobile app. Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited has been given the responsibility of implementing this scheme on the ground in Bihar, ensuring its benefits reach as many needy families as possible.
Application Made Easy with a Mobile App
Consumers wishing to apply for the PM Surya Ghar Yojana can use the SUVIDHA app. This app requires consumers to provide digital consent, without which the process will not be completed. After logging into the app, consumers will verify their personal information and provide permission for the scheme.
According to the department, the entire process has been kept extremely simple so that people in both rural and urban areas can apply without any hassle. Only consumers who provide timely consent will be included in the solar panel installation list. The SUVIDHA app can be downloaded from both the Google Play Store and the App Store.
Learn about the application deadline
The deadline for submitting consent online is February 28, 2026. No applications will be accepted after this date. Therefore, eligible consumers are advised to complete the application process in time.
There will be no fee for installing solar panels under the scheme. However, consumers will be responsible for regular maintenance and cleaning of the system. With proper maintenance, the solar system will perform optimally over the long term and maintain stable power generation.
2.5 Lakh Households to Benefit in First Phase
The first phase of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana aims to install free solar panels on the rooftops of approximately 2.5 lakh Kutir Jyoti consumers in Bihar. The goal is to enable eligible families to meet their daily electricity needs.
The daytime electricity generated by solar systems will be directly used for domestic use, reducing dependence on the power grid. This will have a direct impact on monthly electricity bills, resulting in significant savings for consumers.
