PM Kisan Yojana- Millions of farmers across the country are eagerly awaiting the 21st installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. The 20th installment was released on August 2, 2025. Under this scheme, every eligible farmer family receives financial assistance of Rs 6,000 annually, distributed in three installments of Rs 2,000 each. Meanwhile, the government has cracked down on fraudulent or ineligible beneficiaries.
The government has initiated a thorough scrutiny of the PM-KISAN database to identify fake and duplicate beneficiaries. Cases have been detected in several districts where government employees, pensioners, or income tax payers have also taken advantage of the scheme. The central government has initiated the process of recovering the money from these individuals and has sent recovery notices to many individuals. According to the Agriculture Ministry, only farmers whose livelihood depends on agriculture and who are not income tax payers will now be considered eligible.
Who is not eligible for the scheme?
According to the rules of the PM-KISAN scheme, all institutional landholders and families in which a member has been a minister, MP, MLA, mayor, district council president, or government employee are not eligible. Furthermore, those receiving pensions of more than Rs 10,000, taxpayers, and professionals such as doctors, engineers, lawyers, and CAs are also excluded from the scheme. If more than one person in a family has received benefits, the remaining amount is now being sought back. In several cases, installments were issued in the names of deceased farmers, which have been investigated and the respective districts have been directed to recover them.
If your installment of Rs 2,000 has not arrived for a long time, then first of all check whether your bank account is linked with Aadhaar and NPCI or not. To know their status, beneficiaries can go to pmkisan.gov.in and check the details by mobile or Aadhaar number in the ‘Beneficiary Status’ section. If you have received the benefit of the scheme by mistake, then the amount can be refunded through the ‘Refund Online’ option. However, farmers who are genuinely eligible need not worry – the government’s strictness is only on fake beneficiaries.
